Pemberton Heights

Pemberton Heights is a lovely enclave of handsome homes perched on a limestone shelf above verdant Shoal Creek. Part of the Pease family's tract, the southern edge of neighborhood still includes their glorious Greek Revival mansion "Woodland" built in 1853. At this time, Pemberton Heights was considered well outside of Austin city limits. As bridges were built across the creek in the 1920s, the area became a popular destination with easy access to the town center.

Well-heeled residents, including judges, politicians and business leaders constructed a mix of grand and restrained homes, from the Monterey Revival Keith House built in 1933 to the Catterall Mills House built in 1937 in the style of Early American Georgian Revival. Ornate Pemberton Castle, which once served as a sales office for the neighborhood, was built in 1926. Originally owned by Judge John Harris, it made a starring turn in the 1994 Disney film, "Blank Check."

Today, this timeless neighborhood is sought after for its magnificent views, century-old trees, pedestrian-friendly surroundings and distinctive street names inlaid into the curbs with black-and-white tile.
